Fire Code Enforcement
Mooresville Fire & Rescue Fire Marshal’s Office (FMO) enforces the most recent version of the North Carolina Fire Prevention Code as adopted by the Town Board of Commissioners. As dictated by fire code, the FMO conducts periodic inspections on all structures (except one- and two-family dwellings) and issues fire prevention permits. Permits include public fireworks display permits, blasting permits and others.
FMO staff works closely with the Inspections/Development Plans/Permits Division of the Iredell County Building Standards Department to perform various inspections, review construction documents, and issue certificates of occupancy.
Fire Code Violations
If you observe or are concerned about a potential fire code violation, please follow the process listed below:
*To submit a fire code complaint during regular business hours (8 a.m. – 5 p.m.), call the FMO at 704-660-7110.
*If a life-safety hazard exists outside of regular business hours and requires immediate attention, call 704-664-1338 or 704-878-3035.
*If a non-life safety hazard exists outside of regular business hours, complete the Citizen Fire Code Citation and/or drop it by one of our fire stations. A Fire Inspector will investigate the complaint the following business day. Please be as specific as possible with complaint details.
If a fire code violation is found or is not corrected, a civil citation may be issued by members of the FMO.
