Fire Marshal – Gary Styers
Fire Marshal Gary Styers joined the Mooresville Fire & Rescue (MFR) in 2005 and is in charge of Fire Prevention & Education. As Fire Marshal, Styers is responsible for the coordination of the department’s efforts of Fire Prevention and Fire Service Planning. He manages and coordinates Fire Inspections, Fire Investigations, Fire Educational Programs, and the review of construction plans for fire code compliance. Also, Styers is responsible for the planning of the department’s response within the town limits of Mooresville as it relates to annexations and service delivery.
Prior to employment with the MFR, Styers served as Lieutenant, Firefighter, Fire Suppression Officer, Training Captain, Captain and Fire Investigator for other fire departments. He is a former Canine Handler for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and currently serves as an adjunct instructor for various colleges in the area.
Styers received an associate degree from Guildford Technical College and an undergraduate degree from Charter Oak State College. Currently, he is a student in the Master of Public Administration program at UNC-Pembroke and the Executive Fire Officer program at the National Fire Academy. Styers holds numerous state certifications in the areas of Fire, Rescue, Hazardous Materials, Emergency Medical, Fire Inspections, Arson, Fire Education, Fire Officer and as a Fire Service Instructor.
Married with one daughter, Styers holds membership in numerous job-related associations such as the National Fire Protection Association, National Society of Executive Fire Officers, International Association of Fire Chiefs, North Carolina Sprinkler Alliance and the Iredell County Firefighter’s Association. He is also involved in community organizations and serves on the Board of Directors of the Mooresville/Lake Norman Exchange Club.
