Training Division


The Training Division of the Mooresville Fire & Rescue (MFR) serves a workforce of all ranks and divisions and is responsible for providing:

∙ Initial recruit training and certification;
∙ Fire, Rescue and EMS continuing education training and re-certification;
∙ Specialty Training such as Collapse/Trench Rescue, Confined Space, Haz-Mat, Technical Rescue, Emergency Vehicle Driving, Driver Operator, Incident Command and Emergency Medical Technician training.

MFR assists personnel who choose to obtain an AAS or BS degree by providing tuition and books reimbursement. Also, the department sponsors firefighters who attend advanced specialty training classes at The National Fire Academy in Maryland.

MFR’s Training Division operates in partnership with the Office of the State Fire Marshal, Mitchell Community College, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and Eastern Kentucky University. Training includes hands-on, classroom-based, video conferencing and in-station company-based training.

Assistant Fire Chief Shane Lacount oversees the Training Division and works with more than 30 MFR instructors certified by the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
