Safe Routes to School National Course - South Elementary School

08 December 2009

Join community leaders, school officials, health & transportation professionals, law enforcement officers, parents and neighbors on Wednesday, January 27 for a Safe Routes to School (SRTS) National Course for South Elementary School in Mooresville.

SRTS programs grow from a community’s concerns about safety, health and traffic. A combination of education, encouragement, engineering and enforcement strategies are used to address these concerns and make SRTS a reality. Communities around the country use SRTS programs to make it safe and appealing for children to walk and bicycle to school. Federal legislation has recognized the value of SRTS programs and is providing funding to establish programs.

The day-long course will be held at South Elementary School, 839 South Magnolia Street, on Wednesday, January 27 from 8:45 a.m. – 4:05 p.m. Participants with gain the knowledge and skills to develop a SRTS program for South Elementary School based on community needs & conditions, best practices and responsible use of resources. The course is free but class size is limited.

The SRTS National Course is maintained by the National Center for Safe Routes to School and was developed by the Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center through a partnership of funding from the Federal Highway Administration, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, and the Environmental Protection Agency.
