Citizens Police Academy

Download a Citizens Police Academy Application.

The Mooresville Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy is an eight-week program designed to provide an informative look at the operations of the local police department. Although some meetings involve classroom presentations, students can also participate in simulations and hands-on activities. It is not the mission of the Academy to train citizens to become police officers but to help raise awareness, understanding and trust within the community.

During the Academy, the following topics are addressed:
• Mooresville Police Department Overview & Introduction
• Patrol Operations
• Communications & Record Keeping
• Criminal Investigations & Crime Scene Searches
• Case Preparation & Court Testimony
• Specialized Units
• Realistic Scenarios for Responding Police Officers

The Academy is open to Mooresville residents and business owners who are at least 18 years old. Applicants must complete an application and provide a certified copy of their criminal history from the Iredell County Clerk of Court.

The next session of the Citizens Police Academy begins on Tuesday, March 9 for orientation. Classes will meet on consecutive Tuesday nights starting March 16 from 6:30 – 9 p.m. at the police department. There will be no class on April 6.
