Community SAFE Team
The Mooresville Police Department’s Community SAFE (Selected Areas for Enforcement) Team was formed in 2011 to address recurring problems in local neighborhoods, apartment complexes and on our streets and highways.

A number of resources are assigned to the SAFE Team, including the Narcotics Unit, the Traffic Unit and assigned patrol officers. Patrol officers may be assigned on a permanent basis or serve on a temporary detail depending on current demands.

With the formation of the Community SAFE Team, the Mooresville Police Department has the enhanced ability to act quicker and become more flexible in addressing ongoing problems and citizen complaints. In addition to addressing complaints from citizens, the Team uses technology to identify crime and disorder trends through crime mapping and crime analysis.

Through the use of local and state traffic accident and speed data, the Traffic Unit concentrates their efforts on intersections with high numbers of traffic crashes and along roadways and neighborhood streets that are experiencing speeding or other traffic related issues.

Narcotics Unit
Detectives assigned to Narcotics are responsible for investigating crimes related to illegal drug trafficking, gambling, prostitution and alcohol-related crimes. Detectives in this unit also investigate crimes that involve the illegal use, sale or purchase of prescription drugs. Although prescription drug use is lawful and necessary in many cases, the intentional non-medical use or abuse of prescription drugs in the United States is on the rise and has begun to receive more attention from various disciplines including law enforcement.

Traffic Safety Unit
The Mooresville Police Department formed the Traffic Safety Unit to provide a specialized response to traffic needs in our community. Although they are involved in numerous enforcement activities, including campaigns such as Click It or Ticket, they also assist with traffic safety education and awareness. Members of the Unit receive additional training and carry specialized equipment to assist in assignments that include accident reconstruction and neighborhood speed surveys.
