Rape Aggression Defense (RAD)
RAD-Basic
The Mooresville Police Department is offering Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) training for women in our community at no charge. RAD is a defense course designed to teach women basic defense options in the event of an attack. The program provides great information and an opportunity to practice basic skills in a controlled environment.
The course accommodates 25 women (14 years of age or older) and is taught by certified instructors with various background and training specialties from the Mooresville Police Department. Our police officers/instructors include Captain Frank Falzone, Officer Georgia Kennedy and Officer Ashley Patrick.
The next RAD session will be held Saturday, April 24 and Sunday, April 25 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the Charles Mack Citizen Center in downtown Mooresville. Other sessions scheduled for 2010 are July 17 & 18 and October 23 & 24.

RAD-Senior
RAD-Senior is Rape Aggression Defense training designed for men and women over the age of 65. Offered by the Mooresville Police Department at no charge, RAD-Senior is similar to RAD-Basic but focuses on crime reduction strategies seniors can use in their own home and community. The training focuses on crimes specific to the senior adult population.
RAD-Senior teaches participants physical defense strategies and techniques with some senior limitations in mind. This class is taught by two certified RAD-Senior and RAD-Basic instructors with the Mooresville Police Department.
The 2010 RAD-Senior session will begin March 1 with classes being held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. The eight-class session will end on March 24. Although it is not required for participants to attend all eight classes, it is highly recommended.
